Course Frequently Asked Questions
How do your courses work, and what is their structure?
Each course consists of a 'Learning Pathway'. The pathway includes Classes on specific topics, and each class contains multiple Lessons, which can be videos, text based, or exercises.
Upon completion of each Class, a downloadable certificate is issued to the pupil to confirm their completion of the Class.
There is no final test for Classes - the Classes are modular, and although designed to be followed in sequence, it is up to pupil supervisors or training managers within the pupil's chambers or practice to select the classes they wish pupils to complete, and the order in which to complete them. It is also up to their supervisors to assess whether pupils have completed, absorbed, correctly understood, and know how to apply what has been learned from each Lesson.
For those taking the course as independents (i.e. not under supervision, it is recommended that they follow all the Classes in sequence. Without a chambers or practice supervisor, they can request support from the relevant course teacher to clarify any topics or points from a Class.
How do I get support?
It is normally expected that your chamber's pupil supervisor or practice training manager will be supervising your training and should be able to answer most questions in relation to the specific practices of chambers, or law practice, and should therefore be your first port of call.
However, you can also request support or clarification on any of the topics raised in a class with the course teacher. Simply click on Request Teacher Support on the My Account menu to request help. Teacher support is confidential, and is not reported back to pupil supervisors.
Additionally, there is a forum on the site, available to all pupils and supervisors. We are aiming to build an advocacy community, and would encourage all pupils to post any questions there as well.
What happens at the end of my course?
Courses have an expected duration of one year from subscription activation, during which pupils are expected to have completed all their required Classes, and downloaded their certificates. At the end of the year their course subscription will expire, and access will revert to the resources available to free registered users. Pupils who have not completed their course within the year can renew their subscription to retain access to the course materials.
Can Pupil Supervisors register their own pupils?
This is not recommended. All pupils must have their own dedicated subscription to be able to track their Lesson completion history and access other resources on the site, and in order to manage their own personal privacy settings. For data security and privacy reasons we recommend that each pupil subscribes individually, using a unique password of their own choosing. However, it is technically possible for a supervisor to register on a pupil's behalf, in which case they would be entirely responsible for each pupils' password security, and any actions taken using that specific login.
If a chambers or firm has several pupils they wish to register, then we can do that on their behalf, requiring each pupil to reset their own password when first logging in for security.
How do we pay for courses?
The easiest way to pay for courses is by credit or debit card when subscribing. Alternatively you can choose the 'Pay by Invoice' option. An invoice will be sent to the pupil's email address for settlement by the chambers or firm. Upon receipt of payment the course subscription will be activated, and available to the pupil. Although pupils will be able to log in to the site after registering, access will be limited to the free resources and tools until payment is received.
Other payment methods are available upon request, at our discretion.
